Nursing Students Receive White Coats
On October 18, New York Institute of Technology's Class of 2025 nursing program students received their white coats. The Nursing White Coat Ceremony signifies the transition from classroom learning to clinical learning and represents a formal welcome into the nursing profession. It is held each fall semester of the students' junior year, before beginning their first clinical experience in health facilities.

New York Tech Students Coach Budding STEM Scholars
This summer, eight New York Tech students representing the School of Architecture and Design, the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, and the College of Arts and Sciences spread out across the university's New York City and Long Island campuses to coach at this year's Middle School Summer Maker Academy. Supported by a grant from the VOYA Foundation, the weeklong summer camp program, spearheaded by the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, has young students come together to brainstorm tech-infused, environmentally friendly solutions to real-world challenges.

New York Institute of Technology proudly recognizes its Peer Success Guides (PSGs) for the 2023-2024 academic year. The program pairs first-year undergraduate students with a sophomore, junior, or senior student, who provides them with both social and academic support during their first year, helping to direct them to the many services and resources available at New York Tech. Having walked in the shoes of a first-year student, PSGs can relate to the transition and challenges that these students may face. As such, they help to share valuable insight about the exciting successes they achieved and the tough lessons they learned along the way.

PA Studies Class of 2023 Receives White Coats
On May 15, the Physician Assistant (PA) Studies program held its annual White Coat Ceremony in celebration of the Class of 2023. White coat ceremonies are a rite of passage celebrating the completion of students' training as they graduate and pursue careers as PAs. In marking the transition into professional life, the event centers around the symbolic awarding of a new long white coat, which replaces the short student white coat worn to class and clerkships. PAs are healthcare professionals who diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient's principal healthcare provider. New York Tech's career-focused Physician Assistant Studies, M.S. program provides students with a strong foundation in science, medicine, research, and transcultural patient care as they build their professional network and prepare for the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination.

Each spring, New York Institute of Technology's School of Health Professions inducts senior students from all health disciplines into the Alpha Eta Honor Society. With the motto "Together We Serve," the national honor society promotes and recognizes students for significant scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the allied health professions. This year, nearly 100 students, including members of the spring Class of 2023 and fall graduates of the Class of 2022, were inducted.

Student Research Showcased at SOURCE 2023
On April 14, New York Institute of Technology undergraduate and graduate students showcased their scholarly work at the institution's annual Symposium of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE). At New York Tech's New York City campus, 119 student research projects were shared in the form of oral presentations and poster presentations. Oral presentations covered social impact topics such as the relationship between body positivity and physical health, solutions to greenhouse gas emissions in Puerto Rico, and student-led legislation to end the sale of over-the-counter weight loss and muscle-building products to minors. Technical oral presentation topics included exotic DNA structures and their role in gene instability, genome sequencing of bacteria-infecting viruses (bacteriophages), and the use of bacteriophages to combat MRSA infections. Students also shared poster presentations spanning a wide range of topics, including, among many others, the use of cannabidiols in cancer treatment and the future of telemedicine. NYITCOM Students Inducted into Honors Fraternity
Twenty-nine future physicians from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine's (NYITCOM) Class of 2024 were inducted into the medical school's chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi. Sigma Sigma Phi is the national osteopathic medicine honors fraternity for medical students training to become Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). NYITCOM invites only a select number of students who rank at the top of their class to apply for Sigma Sigma Phi membership. Members are selected based on outstanding academic excellence, leadership qualities, and dedication to service.
