Risk Manager on Campus, Robert Cartwright Jr., Comes to New York Institute of Technology

Marsh and Spencer Educational Foundation Lead Industry Experts

New York, N.Y. (05/01/2024) — Students at New York Institute of Technology participated in its School of Management's first Risk Manager on Campus program on April 29-30. The event was sponsored by Marsh, the world's leading insurance broker and risk advisor, and the Spencer Educational Foundation, an international non-profit and the premier organization that funds the education of tomorrow's risk management and insurance leaders. Spencer awards scholarships and grants to support students pursuing careers in risk management, insurance, and actuarial science and provides grants that create experiential learning opportunities both on and off campus.

Robert Cartwright Jr., former president and chair of RIMS Global Board of Directors, served as the "Risk Manager on Campus" for the two-day event, which focused on how cybersecurity, ransomware, and artificial intelligence (AI) risks are impacting the risk management and insurance industry. Students also got to hear from Cartwright and other industry leaders about the opportunities and rewards of pursuing careers in the industry.

"Spencer is an advocate for supporting outreach as we expand risk management practices to students not exposed to the RMOC program that Spencer has managed over the years. My passion for the next generation is the driving force for this program and I am honored to share my personal journey in this industry which spans over 35 years of Human Resources and Risk Management and Insurance expertise," Cartwright said.

"Marsh is proud to support the Risk Manager on Campus program and work with the Spencer Educational Foundation to get the word out to students about the opportunities for careers in the dynamic risk and insurance industry," said Santonio Isom, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leader at Marsh. "The rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity alone presents one of the biggest opportunities for technology students today."

"The rate of growth in the industry overall is unprecedented and will require risk management and insurance companies to expand their staffs to meet the demand," said Joshua Bienstock, associate professor in the School of Management and director of New York Tech's Center for Risk Management. "New York Tech students need to understand the opportunities that are available, which typically pay more than other business concentrations, and prepare themselves to fill the jobs when they graduate."

"This is the second of twelve Marsh-supported Risk Manager on Campus events in the United States. Spencer is committed to supporting next-generation risk management and insurance professionals and strives to instill practical learning at colleges and universities across the United States and Canada," said Megan Miller, Spencer's executive director.

"This was our first visit to campus and it will not be our last. We will continue to collaborate with Professor Bienstock as he expands the Center for Risk Management's presence in the School of Management and New York Tech and support students whenever possible."
