New York Tech Offers Test-Optional Admissions Policy for Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 Applicants

The test-optional policy and rolling admissions cycle for many New York Tech programs provides the opportunity for students to showcase their potential for educational success beyond standardized test scores.

Old Westbury, NY (05/12/2020) — New York Institute of Technology announced a new test-optional admission policy for undergraduate students applying for the Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 semesters.

"The test-optional policy and rolling admissions cycle for many of New York Tech's programs provides the opportunity for students to showcase their potential for educational success beyond standardized test scores," said Joseph Posillico, Ed.D., vice president of enrollment management. "It removes barriers that high school seniors and juniors may be facing due to COVID-19 disruptions to traditional education and changes in the SAT and ACT exam offerings this year."

New York Tech joins more than 1,100 schools across the United States, according to Fairtest.org, offering either temporary or permanent test-optional policies. While this policy has been adopted temporarily for 2020 and 2021 applications, it will continue to be assessed as a more permanent option for future incoming classes at New York Tech.

In an effort to provide more flexibility to applicants and their families, New York Tech has made several changes to the admissions process this year, such as extending the deposit deadline from May 1 to June 1, reducing the tuition deposit from $400 to $200 through June 1, accepting pass/fail grades, and offering dozens of opportunities to connect virtually with faculty, students, admissions and financial aid counselors.

"We understand the physical, emotional, and financial challenges our students and families are experiencing during the pandemic. Our admissions and financial aid counselors are helping families on an individual basis to assist high school seniors with finalizing their college search process," Posillico added.

The test-optional policy is available to all applicants in progress and new applications for fall 2020 and will be available for spring 2021 and fall 2021 applicants when the Common Application opens in August. Students who are reviewed for admission without standardized test scores will still be considered for merit scholarships. Applicants for the following programs are required to submit standardized test scores: computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, nursing, and the combined undergraduate/graduate health professions (B.S./D.O., occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) programs. International applicants are also required to submit English language exam scores to demonstrate their English proficiency.
